We all have goals, no matter how big or small they are. One asset that separates those who achieve their goals from those who don’t is a plan – or roadmap, pinpointing how to reach the ultimate goal.
When we set off on a car journey across country, we do not just exit our front door with a destination in mind. We enter the postcode into our sat nav or plan our route; we work out where we will need to stop for fuel or an overnight stay if the journey so requires. We pack snacks, water, and other items we will need for our entire trip. We plan the details of our trip so that we do not get lost on the journey to our destination.
If we do the same for our trading journey (or any goal we set ourselves in life), we are much more likely to arrive at that destination. There may be an unexpected bump along the road – a flat tyre or a traffic jam. But as long as we follow the plan, we can be confident we are on the right track and eventually reach the desired location.
For those with ambitious goals, it can seem quite daunting. When where you want to get to is a million miles from where you are today, the ultimate dream can seem too far out of reach…it’s tempting to feel like a failure or give up altogether when the gains seem so small within the bigger picture. Yet this mindset is the quickest way to GUARANTEE you will never achieve and be the best version of yourself that you can be.

‘’To climb a mountain, focus on the next 1,000 steps’’

If you are ambitious and the end of your journey seems impossible to reach, break your journey down into smaller, more realistic targets that comprise the roadmap to the final destination. This will help keep you focused on achievable goals; you can take comfort in the fact that, even though you are in a traffic jam, you are still on the right road – you do not need to turn around and go back home again.
So, take some time to think about where you want to be and what you want to achieve from trading. See where you are today, and create a plan of what you will need to achieve to get there. Break it down and follow your roadmap; it may take you longer than you would like and had hoped for, but with discipline and patience, you will Make It Happen.
